Despite the overwhelming evidence that shows private school voucher schemes strip money away from underfunded public schools, negatively impacting educational opportunities for students, Sen. Cory Booker has once again affirmed his blind commitment to vouchers.
Sen. Booker recently announced his support for Washington, D.C.’s private school voucher program. This is especially troubling since the people of Washington, D.C., who have no representation at the federal level, have been largely abandoning the false promise of this scheme.
In fact, in 2017, the Washington Post reported that voucher enrollment has dropped every year over the past four years.
If D.C. residents are rejecting vouchers, why is Sen. Booker continuing to support them, even in the face of substantial research that shows vouchers do not help students, parents, and communities, and actually make them more vulnerable to opportunists?
